If you were born in Nigeria before 1992, you probably do not have a valid Birth Certificate until you process a Birth Attestation Letter from the National Population Commission (NPC).
A Birth Attestation Certificate or Attestation of Birth Letter is issued to people born in Nigeria before the establishment of the NPC Act, while a National Population Commission Birth Certificate is issued to people born after 1992. The document can be processed in person, or by an older relative (proxy), who has sufficient knowledge of the birth and origin of the applicant.
The process begins with gathering important family data. Information gathered will be used to create Age Declaration Affidavit which is a requirement for getting the birth attestation certificate.
Age Declaration Affidavit (from High Court)
Valid ID (NIN, Int. passport, Driver’s license)
